Leros is a
beautiful Aegean island, very rich in natural beauties, with wonderful
excursion spots, picturesque bay and beaches. In general Leros is known as the
island of the big contrasts, where green valleys interchange to dry hills
and the nice beaches to rocky cliffs over the sea. The visitor can enjoy the
crystal-clear sea, pure air and lots of water sports. Alinda and Vromolithos
are beaches famous for swimming, sailing, water-skiing, windsurfing, where
as Xerocambos is famous for scuba diving. The local traditions of the
island, are revived to this day, as well as traditional songs of Leros, that
can still be heard in weddings, baptisms and other manifestations. During
the summer months, the municipal authority with the cooperation of other
local factors organize various cultural activities such as concerts, shows,
sea-sport competitions, lectures, art exhibitions etc. During the first
fortnight of August, they hold the athletic events known as "Alindia" since
1907. Also the Traditional Group of Leros, presents a noticeable activity
within and outside the island. |
