The National
Marine Park of Alonissos - unique of its kind in Greece - has been created
for the protection of the Mediterranean "monk" seal (Monachus-Monachus).
Apart from this mammal, which is close to extinction, the Marine Park
protects several other rare species of sea life. It is possible to visit the
area by hiring a motorboat.
